Badge builder

## Free trust badge generator, built to raise your add to cart rate

Pick the promises that settle shoppers' doubts, from free shipping to a money-back guarantee, and preview them under a live Add to cart button. Designing takes no sign-up; **a free CartHacker account saves the group and gives you the snippet.**

What you get

## Trust badges that load fast and read in your shopper's language

### Will my badges speak my shoppers' language?

On Premium they read the language of each page and switch between **30 built-in translations**, with Arabic and Hebrew set right to left.

### Will trust badges slow my store down?

They are **drawn from text and shapes, with no images and no web fonts**, in one small file that loads after your page.

### How many shoppers actually see them?

Your dashboard counts every page view with badges, and **how many shoppers had them on screen for a full second**.

### Do trust badges really increase sales?

Premium's impact test hides your badges from a share of page views and **compares add to cart rates** between the two groups.

### Can I show an FDA or Norton seal?

Not without their permission: EU law bans unearned trust marks outright. **Every badge here is a promise your store controls.**

### Can I change them once they are live?

Edit a group in your dashboard and **your store shows the change within 5 minutes**, with nothing to paste again.

How it works

## How to add trust badges to Shopify and WooCommerce

1. **Build your badge group.** Pick up to 12 badges, a style and your brand color in the builder, then choose where the group goes: under the Add to cart button, under the checkout button on the cart page, above the footer, or exactly where you paste a placeholder line. The preview shows it on a sample product page as you work.
2. **Save it to a free account.** Saving needs a free CartHacker account. Your store loads the group from our server rather than from a file you host, which is also what lets you edit it later without touching your theme again. Your dashboard then shows the one line your theme needs.
3. **Paste the loader into your theme.** On Shopify, open Online Store, then Themes, then Edit code, open theme.liquid in the Layout folder and paste the line inside the head section, on its own line directly above the closing head tag. On WordPress and WooCommerce, add it as an HTML snippet in the free WPCode plugin, with Insert Method set to Auto Insert and Location set to Site Wide Header. On any other platform, paste it once between the opening and closing head tags. One line covers every badge group.
4. **Open your store to confirm.** Load a page where a group is placed: a product page for Under Add to cart, the cart for Under the checkout button, any page for Above the footer. Once you leave that page your own view reaches the dashboard and turns the install status green. Views from the theme editor and from our own checks are not counted.

## Which trust badges help, and which ones are a legal risk

Baymard Institute surveyed 1,026 US adults in 2025, and **19 percent had abandoned a checkout in the previous three months because they did not trust the site with their card details**. That is the problem a badge addresses. Baymard's seal tests also found something less comfortable: a homemade seal, with no company behind it at all, scored significantly better than the SSL seals of established vendors, Norton's excepted. Shoppers judge a seal by how it looks and rarely check who issued it.

European law is blunt about borrowed seals. **Annex I of the Unfair Commercial Practices Directive bans "displaying a trust mark, quality mark or equivalent without having obtained the necessary authorisation"** in every circumstance, with no test of whether anybody was misled. An "FDA Approved", "Verified and Secured" or "Accredited Business" seal that no authority awarded falls straight into it. Since 27 September 2026, Directive (EU) 2024/825 adds generic environmental claims such as eco-friendly or green, and sustainability labels without a certification scheme behind them. Point 10 of the same annex catches a subtler trap: advertising a right shoppers already have by law, such as the EU's 14-day withdrawal period or its 2-year guarantee, as if it were something your store offers.

So this library is built the other way round. **Every one of the 50 badges is a promise your own store controls**: free shipping, a returns window, a warranty, cash on delivery. None imitates a certificate. Badges that promise something checkable carry a short note in the builder naming the fact behind them, so you check your policy before a shopper does.

## Where to put trust badges on a product page

Put them where the decision happens. **Directly under the Add to cart button** is the strongest spot on a product page, because that is where a hesitant shopper looks for a reason to click; the default placement here is exactly that. A second group under the checkout button on the cart page repeats the promise at the next point of doubt.

Three to five badges is plenty. A row of twelve stops being read at all and starts to look like the pages shoppers have learned to distrust, so pick the promises that answer a real question about your store (shipping cost, returns, payment safety) and leave the rest out. One honest limit applies on Shopify: **no theme code, ours included, can place anything inside Shopify's own checkout**, which only Shopify Plus stores can customize.

## How the impact test measures whether badges work on your store

Case studies about trust badges disagree. Stores differ, and the only number worth trusting is your own. **The impact test on CartHacker Premium hides a badge group from a share of page views, picked at random, and compares the add to cart rate with and without it.** You choose the share: 10, 25 or 50 percent. A bigger share reaches an answer sooner and shows the badges to fewer shoppers in the meantime.

Each page view is its own draw, which is why nothing is stored on the shopper's device: no cookie, no identifier, nothing a consent banner has to announce. The price is honesty about carry-over. A shopper who sees badges on one page and none on the next lands in both groups, and that pulls the two rates together, so a difference the test does report is, if anything, understated.

The verdict stays at "collecting" until each side has 300 page views and there are 30 adds to cart in total. After that it reports the difference with a 95 percent confidence interval, and it only calls a winner when that interval sits entirely on one side of zero. It measures adds to cart. Orders are left out because Shopify keeps its checkout closed to theme scripts, and the test uses the same signal on every platform.

## What to know before you install

Automatic placement looks for a standard Add to cart form, which every Shopify theme and WooCommerce's own templates have. A heavily customized theme may hide it, and then a placeholder line or a CSS selector puts the group exactly where you want it.

Badge text is real text. It renders in the shopper's own system font, which is what lets Chinese, Arabic, Hindi and Thai display correctly without a download, and it means letter shapes differ slightly between an iPhone, an Android phone and a Windows laptop. **Choose "Your store's font" and the badges use your theme's typeface instead.** Views are counted only from the store address in your dashboard, so the theme editor, staging copies and our own speed tests never inflate your numbers.

Common questions

## FAQ

### Are these trust badges really free?

Yes. A free CartHacker account gets one badge group with any of 8 badges in 2 styles (Rosette seal and Icon and caption), your brand color, English wording and 7 days of view statistics, with no time limit and no card. CartHacker Premium raises that to 50 groups, all 50 badges, all 14 styles, 30 languages, your own wording and 180 days of statistics.

### How do I add trust badges to Shopify without an app?

Paste one line into your theme. In your Shopify admin open Online Store, then Themes, then Edit code, open theme.liquid in the Layout folder and paste the line inside the head section, on its own line directly above the closing head tag. Each badge group then appears where its placement puts it, under the Add to cart button on every product page by default. To place a group somewhere else, add a Custom Liquid block in the theme editor and paste that group's placeholder line into it.

### How do I add trust badges to WooCommerce?

Install the free WPCode plugin first. Add an HTML snippet, paste the line, set the insert location to Site Wide Header and activate the snippet, and the badges appear under the Add to cart form on every product page. For a spot WooCommerce has no hook for, paste a group's placeholder into a Custom HTML block.

### Do trust badges increase conversion rates?

On some stores, yes. Published tests range from clear gains to no change, and a cluttered row of unfamiliar seals can make a page look less trustworthy rather than more. What the research agrees on is the problem: in Baymard Institute's 2025 survey of 1,026 US adults, 19 percent had abandoned a checkout in the previous three months because they did not trust the site with their card details. The impact test on CartHacker Premium measures the effect on your own store by hiding your badges from a random share of page views and comparing add to cart rates.

### Why is there no FDA approved, SSL certified or Norton badge?

Because they would break the law. Showing a certificate nobody awarded you is banned in the EU in every case, under Annex I, point 2 of the Unfair Commercial Practices Directive, and it misleads shoppers everywhere else. Since 27 September 2026 the same list also bans generic environmental claims like eco-friendly. Every badge in this library is a promise your own store makes and can keep, and the ones that assert something checkable carry a note telling you what to check.

### Which languages are included?

CartHacker Premium covers 30: English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Dutch, Polish, Czech, Romanian, Hungarian, Greek, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Finnish, Turkish, Russian, Ukrainian, Arabic, Hebrew, Hindi, Bengali, Thai, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Chinese (Simplified) and Chinese (Traditional). The badges read the language of each page, so a store with English, German and Japanese pages shows each shopper their own. Numbers follow each language's grammar, so Polish reads 2 lata but 5 lat. Free accounts get English only.

### Will the badges slow down my store?

They add one small script that loads after your page has, with no images and no web fonts, because every badge is drawn from text and shapes in the browser. The file is cached at Cloudflare and in the shopper's browser, so repeat page views reuse it. You can check this yourself. Run the Store Speed Test on a product page before and after you install.

### Can I put trust badges on the Shopify checkout page?

No. Shopify only lets Shopify Plus stores add content inside the checkout, and no theme code, ours included, can reach it. The closest spot that works is the cart page, directly under the checkout button, which the builder offers as a placement and which is the last thing a shopper reads before Shopify's checkout takes over.

### Do the badges set cookies or track my shoppers?

No cookies and nothing in local storage. The script counts page views with badges, whether the badges were on screen for a second, clicks on badge links, and on Premium whether an add to cart happened, all as totals per day. It records the page path, the language and a device class, never an IP address or any identifier of the shopper.

### What happens to my badges if I cancel Premium?

They stay on your store, cut down to the free plan: the oldest active group that holds at least one of the free badges keeps showing, in English, with just those badges, and the impact test stops. Every setting is kept, so all of it comes back the day you restart. Groups built only from Premium badges pause.
